All About Of 300 Rise of An Empire 2014
Plot
Queen Gorgo of Sparta tells her warriors about the Battle of Marathon, in which General Themistocles of Athens slew King Darius of Persia 10 years before. Xerxes, Darius’ son, sees his father’s death and is encouraged not to continue the battle since “only the gods can vanquish the Greeks.”
Artemisia, Darius’ naval commander, argues that Darius’ parting words were a challenge and sends Xerxes on a trek into the desert. Finally, Xerxes arrives in a cave and bathes in an unearthly liquid, emerging as the 8-foot-tall “God-King.” To avenge his father, he returns to Persia and makes war on Greece.
As Xerxes’ armies approach Thermopylae, Themistocles meets with the council and persuades them to furnish him with a navy to fight the Persians at sea. Themistocles then sails to Sparta to seek assistance from King Leonidas, but Dilios informs him that Leonidas is consulting the Oracle, and Gorgo is hesitant to stand with Athens.
Later, Themistocles reunites with his old buddy Scyllias, who infiltrated the Persian soldiers and discovered Artemisia was born Greek but deserted to Persia when her family was assaulted and slaughtered by Greek hoplites.
She was kidnapped as a sex slave and then abandoned on the streets. A Persian diplomat rescued her and nursed her back to health before adopting her as his own. She was taught by the greatest Persian soldiers and her adoptive father during the next several years. She eventually became such a great and formidable fighter that she drew King Darius’ notice.
After she slaughtered many of his adversaries, he took her into his own family and appointed her as a naval captain. It is also revealed that her adoptive father was the same emissary that Leonidas murdered, which has further fuelled her desire for vengeance, not just for her real family but also for her adopted one. According to Themistocles, Leonidas has marched to confront the Persians with just 300 warriors.
Themistocles takes his fleet of fifty vessels and many thousand troops, including Scyllias, Calisto, Scyllias’ son, and Themistocles’ right-hand man Aeskylos, to the Aegean Sea, launching the Battle of Artemisium. They crash their ships into the Persian ships, attack them, and massacre numerous warriors before fleeing the sinking Persian ships.

When Ephialtes comes to Athens to deliver Themistocles’ word, Xerxes’ army is laying waste. Artemisia departs to prepare her whole armada for combat after realizing he is alive. Xerxes says it’s a trap, but she still departs after reminding him that she created him, king, via her efforts while he sat securely at a distance and watched.
The surviving Greek ships assault the Persian ships, and the two armies clash, kicking off the crucial Battle of Salamis. Combat between Themistocles and Artemisia ends in a stalemate, with both incurring terrible injuries.
At this point, Gorgo, who had been recounting the story to the Spartans, arrives at the fight, accompanied by ships from a number of Greek city-states, including Delphi, Thebes, Olympia, Arcadia, and Sparta, all of whom join forces against the encircled Persians.
The Arcadian army is led by Daxos, while Themistocles begs Artemisia to surrender. Xerxes, who is observing the fight from a cliff, turns his back on her, admitting his naval loss and resuming his army’s march.
Artemisia attempts one more time to murder Themistocles but is killed when he stabs her through the stomach. While Dilios leads the Greek assault, Themistocles and Gorgo secretly accept their cooperation as the surviving Persians launch a counter-attack. The three then rush with the whole Greek army against the opposing Persians.
Overall Reviews
Audience analysis
The majority of audience members who have seen 300: Rise of an Empire (2014) seem to enjoy it. Many viewers say that the movie is exciting, unique and well put together. One review even stated that “300: Rise of an Empire completely blew me away.” Other than a few negative reviews, the majority suggests that this is one action-packed movie you don’t want to miss out on.
Critic’s analysis
Critics gave 300: Rise of an Empire mixed reviews. Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregation website, gives the film a 44 percent approval rating based on 193 reviews, with an average rating of 4.98/10. “It’s certain to strike some viewers as a vacuous exercise in gorgeous gore, and despite a gonzo leading performance from Eva Green, 300: Rise of an Empire is a step down from its predecessor,” the site’s critical consensus states.
The film has a Metacritic score of 48 out of 100, based on 34 reviewers, indicating “mixed or mediocre reviews.” Audiences surveyed by CinemaScore rated the picture a “B” on a scale of A+ to F, down from an A- for its predecessor.
“Rise of an Empire” lacks filmmaker Snyder’s incisive deconstruction of ludicrous hagiography, undercutting the wonderful, strong escapism of testosterone-fueled historical reenactment with an underdog narrative that’s almost too contemplative to be thrilling, according to Todd Gilchrist of The Wrap.
The Hollywood Reporter Todd McCarthy said, “Although Gerard Butler’s fame has drastically diminished owing to the 17 bad films he’s done since 300, it must be conceded that he’s missed here.”
Historical Accuracy
Alex von Tunzelmann, The Guardian’s historical films critic, dismissed the film’s historical credibility, labeling it “History grade: Fail.” She points out various historical inconsistencies in the film, notably the climactic sequence in which Themistocles killed Darius the Great during the Battle of Marathon despite the fact that he was really absent and died of natural causes two years later.
Tunzelmann goes on to compare the film to a crazy fantasy replacement for true historical truth, citing novelist and historian Tom Holland, who translated Herodotus’ Histories and is an authority on the Greco-Persian conflicts.
Paul Cartledge, a Cambridge University professor of Greek culture, also pointed out historical mistakes in the video. Darius, for example, was not as described, and neither Xerxes nor Darius was present at the Battle of Marathon.
Artemisia, a real queen rather than a mistreated orphaned slave, advocated against sailing into the straits and survived the Persian Wars. Furthermore, the Spartan Navy contributed just 16 vessels to the Greek fleet of 400 warships in the final combat scenario rather than the massive armada shown.
Visual effects
In his review of the movie, the reviewer for Forbes magazine says, “The visual effects are truly astounding. The battle scenes and the detail put into them are really quite beautiful.” “Rise of an Empire” is a visually stunning movie that offers action, adventure, and some amazing visual effects. It isn’t without its flaws, but overall, it’s a very enjoyable experience.
Acting Performance
The acting performance in “Rise of an Empire” is acceptable but not great. The lead actors, Leo and Star Wars fan-favorite Mark Hamill, deliver competent performances as Themistocles and Darius the Great, respectively. But other supporting cast members, particularly Charlize Theron as Artemisia and Dominic West as King Philip II of Macedon, fare less well.
Theron seems miscast in her role as a powerful queen as opposed to naval warfare; she doesn’t deliver much convincing emotion or raw dramatic power. And West’s portrayal of Philip is one-dimensional, with little nuance or complexity. Structurally, the film is also problematic. It jumps between three time periods and several locations with little sense of continuity or logical connection.
Moreover, many of the dramatic moments feel underwhelming and anticlimactic.
Nevertheless, “Rise of an Empire” offers a visually stunning experience that’s sure to excite Star Wars fans as well as general moviegoers looking for a thrilling adventure story.
