Back to the Future is a 1985 American science fiction film. It is the sequel to the film Back to the Future (1985). The film was directed by Robert Zemeckis and starred Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover, and Thomas F. Wilson. This movie is one of the most iconic movie franchises in Hollywood history.

In the Back to the Future movie, Michael J. Fox played Marty McFly, a teenager who went back in time in a Delorean car to attend high school in 1955. The DeLorean was an excellent piece of futuristic technology that made this movie possible. While there have been many movies about time travel, few have followed the Back to the Future storyline and provided us with insights into future technology.

Storyline

After Marty McFly returns from the future in Back to the Future (1985), he has a confrontation with his parents about their relationship – specifically, whether or not they fell for each other at first sight and married despite him being born.

The time-jumping story follows Marty’s attempts to prevent school bully Biff Tannen from ruining his family’s small-town brewery by stealing it out of cash flow and selling it off into one company owned by himself. Except for MrMcB1 89 Answers, People always ask “how” did that work?

Well, back in 2015, Doc, who made this film, put out a theory on how this whole escapade could have happened – what follows below is his reasoning and elaborations:

Firstly, Jennifer didn’t give him (or “Dad”) a ride because she wasn’t supposed to go back in time. Secondly, the Doc made sure that there was no one around when he accidentally sent Marty towards the present; by doing so, he would avoid everybody being able to find out about it for nearly 30 years!

That basically means anything involving events that occurred after 1955 has been erased from existence; not only did you erase your daughter falling in love with her father 30 years into the future, but you also erased that your son was on his way to meet her and prevent that tragedy from happening.

The Doc went back in time to 2015 after hearing about Marty McFly’s “great-grandfather” Emmett ‘Doc’ Brown, not knowing what a scientific genius he created! With some more legwork by finding Jennifer (through the use of face recognition software), the Doc located Marty in 1985 hence why we ended up where we did at this very moment.

Then the following day could be explained as being the day when Jennifer was meant to meet Marty through Doc’s message in the diner and not as what would happen 30 years later; by then warping back into 1955, he prevented that altogether.

The Futuristic Technologies Featured In The Movie

The Futuristic Technologies Featured In The Movie

We’d need an entire book to list all of these features… However, the following is just a shortlist of some of the most interesting:

Video Phone (1985):

Once your face appears on TV for others to see, you can give and receive video pictures via text messages! This was likely introduced as soon as VHS became popular with mass marketers in 1981-2. There’s also proof that it came before Sony released its first videocassette recorder in Japan, which may be another chance for time travel too because this could explain why videos have gone out of fashion by 2015 again?

Portable Information Retrieval Systems (1985):

Unlike other computer devices that don’t need electricity to work, this device could store entire libraries at home or when traveling! This was especially useful since it had a long shelf life, so you could have an endless number of books and information with you on the road without ever needing an outlet as well as online services.

Nah, never mind, because if we’re going to go down memory lane, also check out:  the relationship between Sony and JVC in Japan previous to anyone else coming up with portable music players?

Also, let’s not forget that every single year movie studios like to introduce “portable technology” for new movies as well; this includes gadgets that make transportation easier and more comfortable:  like the hovercar in Back to The Future Part 2! Having all these devices info us about an era far, far ahead of our own current day.

Anti-gravity (1985):

These days you’ll find a lot of people who believe in aliens, but what if there were actually technological advances we weren’t aware of? With the invention by NASA’s Dr. Emmett Brown recently, did it mean some kind of financially advanced anti-gravity must have happened? Like it was being tested, and there would be plenty of them by 2015.

The fact that would happen and how it could be done is the flaw in this theory, but what if there was a huge government-like project to get rid of those anti-gravitational feelings?

Time Machines (1985):

Similar to the concept of anti-gravity, there are also plenty of stories from various biblical scholars on how time travel was possible in the past but not anymore due to it not being real. These legends, too, might have been a story told using archetypes instead of details.

Anyways maybe if Wikipedia is correct? I can’t remember offhand). We obviously know that time travel has been developed within movies before actually happening for once.

Some Characters In The Movie

Ted

The band name is not important, but the likely real group at that time was the 60’s-70’s music icons “The Troggs.” Many fans will recognize them as the opening guitar riff for Can’t Get Used To Losing You by The Police!

Tetsuro Yamaguchi(Japanese)

Being a Doctor Who fan, I knew what he looked like and, of course, his famous catchphrase, “Silence please!” which to this day is almost spoken exactly in every single episode except one!

Willie

Willie

Another fan favorite from the Star Wars franchise; it is not hard to imagine him being a computer hacker type with special skills. A lot of people will say that this isn’t possible because he would have been killed by Darth Vader already, and other such quotes they make in your face! Everyone knows though if you are living long enough, you always get shot at some point.

There was no technology on earth back then (or even now) that could stop such attacks, so let’s just say none of us lived as long as we did xD Besides another fact, I like them. He’s always a fun protagonist, and he never gives up!

Even after being told he is gone for the majority of the time, trying to escape the fate that holds him back.

Debbie’s Mother

Most people know Martha Jones as a female Doctor Who companion back when it was first seen on television, but in this movie, she seems like she is portrayed as having emotions – or at least her character does.

Adam West (American)

Batman has gained a lot of popularity over the years, and although he did not have an appearance in this movie, his voice was used for various sound effects, which made it very noticeable to fans. The famous thief is also mentioned in Jules Verne’s book “The Gold Of The Tropic of Capricorn.”

Back to the Future 1985 Short Review

Let me start by stating that I had no prior experience with Back to the Future when it came out this past October (1985). That did not stop me from seeing it and hoping to enjoy the adventure – which is exactly what happened. The actual plot of this movie started off slow, but as more time passed, more action began picking up and soon after, many tense moments ensued.

My Notes:

The music used in this movie (just like the previous Back to the Future Halloween special) was a banger! They really dropped it early on and did not stop until they got near the end. The score helped with intensifying each scene – hell, I would say it’s what makes most of these movies last beyond their time limit well after you leave that theater but let me get back on track.

First off, Chris Lloyd was great as Marty McFly. He did a good job of portraying the young version, which still made him sound more comfortable than being unsure while speaking. He seemed to be very lucky in his looks, though, so I guess dating Jennifer could help with that?

The chemistry between the two main actors (plus Doc Brown’s mother – provided by Mary Steenburgen) was perfect, and it felt like they were all old friends just hanging out together, such as family or multiple close friends going at it one after another.

That’s the way all of us should be in our early twenties.

Dr. Emmett Brown was an interesting character and then again mentioned, who could forget him? He did a great job playing his part as described above – which I think even makes Chuck just like Mark or Jules (their minds behind those novels).

Main Message Of Back To The Future

George McFly takes the role of the protagonist. The idea goes that if we can find our flaws and limitations, we can fix them and upgrade ourselves. The other recurring theme remains that we don’t evolve. That life has chosen a path for us, and we are just along for the ride. A car crash is a way to change course, in the same sense that we can choose our future.

Theoretically, this film should be written if all men were just like Back to the Future, then what would happen? Would life get boring and meaningless because everything was working out according to plan? I think Mr. McFly includes these ideas by having Marty Robert hovering around his own father.

Special Things About Back to The Future

It’s a classic 80s film that appeals not only because of its story but also how well it’s filmed. The humor and clever observations on human nature were memorable, as was the soundtrack playing throughout.

Those scenes where you have Doc (the fun) holding Jennifer by her elbows when he wants to do something for Marty are priceless moments that are not in your face funny, just amusingly self-conscious and rather reflective too, like we all should be aware of our limitations from time to time!

I think this movie is quite underrated, and I would consider it one among my top 10 list at least. It’s watchable as much now as it was in the 80s, and I think that says a lot about its timelessness, even if you have to go back nearly 30 years for me.

Conclusion

Back to the Future is one of those movies that are way too good not to review. Everyone loves this movie, but it has a special place in my heart as well. Back to the Future is a 1985 American science fiction comedy film.

The plot follows Marty McFly (Fox), a teenager who is accidentally sent back in time to 1955, where he must help his parents to save their relationship before he was born. Back to the Future was one of the most iconic movies of the 80s and 90s.
