Plot
Balian, a blacksmith in 1184 France, mourns his late wife. Balian refuses to accept a Crusader as his father, Baron Godfrey of Ibelin. While confronted by the local priest about decapitating the bones of Balian’s wife before burial, Balian kills him.
Balian joins his father in Jerusalem, seeking forgiveness. The bishop’s troops arrive to arrest Balian, but Godfrey refuses to surrender.
King Baldwin IV, Tiberias, the Jerusalem Marshal, and Princess Sibylla greet Balian. Guy’s anti-Muslim Templar aggression threatens King and Sultan Saladin’s fragile truce. Ibelin, Balian’s ancestral home in Ibelin, is in shambles, and the land is almost barren.
He quickly gets to work, using his technical skills to help the workers irrigate the dry, dusty surroundings. The place quickly becomes rich farmland, improving people’s livelihoods and winning Balian’s tribe’s respect. Sibylla visits him, and they fall in love.
In 1185, Saladin marched vengefully on Raynald’s fortress Kerak. Balian guards the people at the King’s request. Balian is captured and meets Saladin’s chancellor Imad ad-Din. Imad ad-Din pardons and frees Balian. Baldwin attacks Saladin’s army besieging Kerak. The incidents diminish Baldwin’s resolve to punish Raynald.
Guy frees Raynald, who murders Saladin’s sister. Guy declares war on the Saracens in 1187, almost killing Balian. Guy enters the army against Balian’s advice. The Saracens slaughtered the tired Crusaders in the desert. Guido kidnaps Raynald and marches to Jerusalem.
Tiberias escapes to Cyprus, while Balian remains to protect and encourage the people. Three days later, Saladin meets Balian. Rather than risk losing Jerusalem, Saladin offers to let the Christians escape in exchange for the Christians’ safety. They consider demolishing the city, so there is nothing to fight over.
Defeated in sword combat, Balian orders Guy to “raise a knight.” Balian finds Sibylla, who has surrendered. English knights pause to enlist Balian, the legendary defender to Jerusalem. Balian tells the crusader of the blacksmith’s return. Balian and Sibylla ride away from Balian’s wife’s grave. Still, the Heavenly Kingdom is divided.

Overall Review
Warner Bros. is an American film company that produces, distributes and presents movies. The Company was established on 5th May 2007 by Time Warner Inc. From the early years until the 10th of November 1996, it produced its own feature films, otherwise known as a subsidiary under this name; Paramount Pictures and New Line Cinema.
Paramount Pictures was acquired by Viacom in 1994 and merged it with Fox’s motion picture production unit that happened on the 1st of January 2010, creating a media-entertainment “conglomerate” based around three main entertainment companies: CBS Corporation.
Critic’s Analysis
It was greeted with mixed reviews at its first release, with many reviewers split on the picture. Roger Ebert, for example, thought the film’s moral was more profound than Scott’s Gladiator.
The cast received a lot of positive feedback. Edward Norton’s portrayal of the leper-King Baldwin was praised by Jack Moore as “phenomenal” and “so far distant from anything he has ever done that we see the genuine nuances of his genius.”
Ghassan Massoud, a Syrian actor, was lauded for his depiction of Saladin, which The New York Times called “cool as a tall glass of water.” Eva Green, who portrays Princess Sibylla “with a measure of calm that contradicts her circumstances,” and Jeremy Irons were praised.
Bloom’s portrayal received a mixed response from American reviewers, with the Boston Globe remarking that although Bloom was “not overtly terrible as Balian of Ibelin,” he “looks like a guy holding the fort for a true star who never comes.”
Others recognized that Balian was more of a “brave and principled thinker-warrior” than a powerful leader and that he won battles with his ideas rather than his muscle.
Bloom gained 20 pounds for the role, and the extended director’s cut of Kingdom of Heaven (described below) exposes even more complicated aspects of Bloom’s character, including relationships with unknown ancestors. Bloom received two Oscars for his performance, despite the criticism.
Box Office
The film was a box office flop in the United States and Canada, grossing $47.4 million against a budget of roughly $130 million. Still, it fared better in Europe and the rest of the globe, grossing $164.3 million and totaling $211,643,158 at the global box office.
In Arabic-speaking nations, particularly Egypt, it was also a success. Scott claimed that the film’s failure in the United States was due to bad marketing, which portrayed the picture as a romantic adventure rather than a study of religious strife.
The film was also cut from its initial form in order to make it shorter and follow a simpler story arc. This “less sophisticated” version was released in theaters, despite the fact that Scott and several of his team thought it was watered down, noting that editing “went in there and took small chunks from everything.”
IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes
General criticism has also been mixed on the internet. Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregation website, gives the film a 39 percent approval rating based on 191 critic reviews, with an average rating of 5.60/10.
“Although it’s an impartial and nicely produced view of the Crusades, Kingdom of Heaven lacks substance,” says the site’s critical consensus. According to the website’s weighted average metric, the picture has a 63/100 rating based on 40 reviews, signifying “generally positive reviews.”
