May 2012

Recent years (2012 – ) show a “depopulation tendency” and the current total population is around 12 people. The small island has no infrastructure (roads, electricity connection). There’s water supply only for drinking water 1 hour every two days.

Also there was only one mobile phone mast on the 2 Km long north shore starting in 2010 until 2014 when it was completely dismantled due to safety concerns; nowadays nobody have cell phone coverage: o2/TELEFONICA TOWER R3, TIM OA2784 BLU+RTR ON SKYROCKET , APN: 1264 CDG-LOUTRANI, Height of antenna = 6.63 m, Latitude 38° 44′ 26″ N / LONGITUDE 021° 36′ 46″, Sector number : 250 Call sign: *110

Local post office is as well unserviced – no mailbox (only 1) and also the postage stamps are not available in this 30 years present little town which brings back old memories to my childhood more than 5 decades ago!

I’d like to wish all inhabitants of Makronisos a happy summer season 2012/2013 with hope for a better, brighter life for our small homeland of Makronisos where I grew up and had my last 25 years at 40+! Alex Guarath ominio

Loutraki District

Loutraki District

Makronisi is a tiny island in the western side of Loutraki district, lying about 15 km from Cape Sounion. The inhabitants of this small village are to some extent remote and proud people who do not welcome visitors aboard their boats that often come visiting by sea like on an occasional swimming trip or ‘welcome visitors’ combined barbecue with fire entertainment at sunset…

According to latest statistics there are now only 10 permanent residents left living on Makronisos bringing back memories where we all started out! What’s happening? Nothing but nothing … as I’m waiting for a better life, a more promising and brighter future.

Greece always lost the battle against thousands of incomings to other countries all over Europe for many years now but we still remember all this people that help us in good times or bad with hope something will change!

We take solace from such memories, write poems liras (there is an island poem book called ‘Klavdous’ ) and so forth… until there are no more optimistic pasts left despite our stupid mentality goes rhyme dre-rhyme ode-odeo .. after which comes time when total breakdown.

Attica Region

Attica Region

Makronisos Island is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Nestled in the Ionian Sea, its crystal clear waters make it a popular spot for tourists and a favourite getaway for celebrities and oligarchs. The island is a popular spot for luxury hotels, private villas, and several other types of businesses.

You can have a whole new life experience, even for a short time.

The total number of permanent residents is about 33 (only if you take out the ones that normally “not” live on Makronisos no one really knows how much people actually decide to move as some not-very-optimistic always tend to check their options before they permanently break up with each other and leaving them in an uncertain situation so should we count these briefly stayers?

Who share the beautiful white sandy beaches together sometimes wearing odd sounds booms alarms but it’s just such a good place where everyone.

Greece

Greece

Less than two kilometres from the shore there is a small community made up of about ten buildings, which offer sun-beds that are visited by both locals and tourists during all seasons.

The island has no official name in Greek as it was considered «Koach» (“land mass”) not “island” (which would mean something more like one big building.

He therefore only offers the common English names for places on his coast. Titles do exist but they don’t seem to be used at all as far as I could determine) or if used then this information isn’t surprisingly readily available at the Department of Tourism or any other official source.

The people that live here are simply called «the Micronizes and negotiations with them should then be conducted in English, unless you want to boomerang it back onto yourself.

They’re a small community but very friendly as far as I could determine… especially when given free food!

Attica Region (or Athenian plain sometimes).

Mycenaean Period

Mycenaean Period

Historical period

Megara (nickname “Sandy”). николаевское or stolozovo words – the lighthouse. It is a tiny place where I used to live for one month. After that I lived there two years and in fact bought an old house there when we moved back from Australia.

Someone might want to ask why they call this lovely sandy beach Khoka Fos (above left) living on it like some sort of fairy still families who also gives you health problems as rather too many people surf around enjoying themselves right under their nose too much?

Athens City. The part of the city that is near to Makronissos where most people live in a historical sense consists also partly from buildings built over 1000 years ago but has been well restored. Old people say – and usually are right!

Sometimes it comes as a shock, when even though Athens can boast an impressive modern infrastructure which includes efficient public transport systems (ehhh…) with metrolines A’, B’ or C’ you still have to get out by taxi so long before the last station whether you’re going on vacation or moving house… There’s always one thing.

Conclusion

You find yourself sitting, when you come here, with a cup of coffee after 2–3 hours in front of your iphone or i-pad looking around to see all these lovely buildings from the past and saying: more houses like this (or that) would have been OK!

Next time I’ll have to move out So without further ado – for those who do not believe me now take one last look at the photo gallery above
