Although park’s methods are unconventional at best (he can tell someone’s guilt just staring at them), his team gets better as they go along because their new tools help break down psychological barriers between police officers and others. Park Doo-man (Song Kang-ho) is a police officer with limited experience and the case challenges him.
As he realizes that the offenses do not point to those involved in any of the four central characters, the Park does whatever it takes to solve it including interviewing everyone individually. The film explores how one’s state of mind can influence his or her ability to murder even if there are no apparent motives.

The Park Hyeon-Gyu case is a fictionalized account of the 2004 murder wave in Korea‘s Afreeca Free Zone. The female victims were gang-raped and murdered by six men including park Hyeon-Gyu, an accomplice of serial killer koo hee-bong (played by Bong Joon Ho)
