Plot
In 1922, Harold Lloyd (the actor’s character) was imprisoned. His mother and Mildred console him as a solemn official and priest arrive. The three of them approach a noose. The “noose” is simply a trackside pickup hoop used by train operators to take instructions without stopping, and the bars are just the ticket barrier. He vows to send for his sweetheart after he’s “made it” in the big metropolis. He’s off.
Mr. Stubbs, the fastidious and arrogantly self-important chief floorwalker, hires him as a sales clerk at De Vore Department Store. He rents a room with his mate “Limpy” Bill, a builder. After Harold’s shift, he visits an old buddy from his hometown who is now a cop.
Bill appears after him. He convinces Bill to knock the cop backward over him using a callbox, bragging about his purported power with the cops. Bill accidentally knocks down the wrong cop. He escapes by scaling a building’s façade. The cop attempts to follow but can’t get beyond the first level, yelling at Bill, “You’ll pay the price! I’ll pinch you the second time I see you!”
Meanwhile, Harold has been mailing his girlfriend costly gifts he cannot afford. She incorrectly believes he is successful enough to sustain a family and joins him by train. To retaliate against Stubbs, he must appear to be the general manager.
He overhears the genuine general manager declaring he would reward $1,000 ($16,544.52 in 2021 money) to anybody who could draw customers to the business. He recalls Bill’s skill and suggests a guy climb the “12-story Bolton building” where De Vore’s is located. He bribes Bill with $500 to do it. The following day, a big audience comes to see the trick.
When a drunk gives “The Law” (the knocked-over cop) a newspaper article describing the occurrence, the cop assumes Bill is the climber. Despite Harold’s desperate attempts to go, he stays put. Finally, Bill offers Harold to ascend the first floor himself, exchange hats and coats with Bill, and then go on.
Bill is chased inside the building, Harold starts up. As soon as Harold switches places with Bill, the policeman approaches and pursues him. Bill informs his pal he’ll meet him on the next level. Harold makes it to the top and kisses his beloved despite a clock and hungry pigeons.
The Climax of The Movie
Many people attribute it to Chaplin’s first sight of Nanette, his future wife. Some say he had so much fun doing this comedy that he invited his friend Richy Müller and John Ballantine to Paris on a trip with their mother in 1917.
After seeing Charlie at the theater one evening after work, she wrote: “What crazy ideas you have about me!!! You think that I’m going to send you away [on a trip]! You can count on me only if we get married!!! Otherwise, give me your address and promise that we’ll always be by ourselves. That’s what counts.”
Both Charlie Chaplin and his friend Sydney Morgan were in love with the same girl called Greta Gaige. However, the girl was also interested in “Sydney”; both used these nicknames. Sydney’s father, an Australian blacksmith and amateur circus performer himself, thought clowns were from the lower-middle-class background. The matter was only cleared until 1927 when Chaplin married Greta in England; they had two sons together before 1977.
The following years would prove not very fruitful for Charlie since no man could live up to Nanette’s expectations of a little rich boy living on Park Avenue (now known as Nancy). At the same time, he continued his famous career in films with such classics as Modern Times and The Gold Rush, which capture simultaneous eras of technological advances. In the 1940s, Mutts Canned (1946) was released by M-G-M; this film would be Charlie’s last American feature that starred him.
The Story Behind The Movie Safety Last!
In 1923, Charlie Chaplin starred in the film Safety Last! which tells the story of a group of factory workers who are preparing to go on strike. The police are waiting for them and are prepared to use force against the strikers if necessary. However, things take an unexpected turn when one of the policemen is injured and has to be taken away in an ambulance. This opens up an opportunity for the strikers to escape from the police and return home.
Charlie plays the part of ‘Buster,’ who is curious to know why the injured policeman cannot keep quiet about events. The viewer is left wondering, and this follows on throughout Arnold Rothstein’s life as he goes from town to town in search of gambling houses where games involving cards occur.
As he states in the film, Buster, a hardworking individual with integrity, believes that both sides should tell every story regardless of whether there may be two worlds pitted against one another. The beginning of Charlie’s life as a child actor came early, but this was not without difficulties for his parents to deal with, both from professional and social perspectives.
His mother, Lily O’Shaughnessy, grew up in an impoverished Irish family where her doting father kept a sailor’s throw overs on boxcars at night or threw them out during times of financial stress (Chaplin The Director). The Chanticleers performed on the famous stage of the Keith-Albee Theater from 1916 to 1921, an era when Charlie was only seventeen years old.
By 1925, Chaplin had still not yet received a Booker nomination (Marchand and Desan). The cinematic world is accustomed to showing premature Oscar winners joking on April Fools’ Day. This year there are no intelligent hopefuls; 1924 and 1927’s Samuel Goldwyn and Orson Welles, respectively, are the early and late dates that have been set aside.

My children love Safety last! – Most have seen this movie, and they say that it is one of their favorites. The action scenes make them laugh, but tears come to their eyes at times in the film. They’ve had so much fun watching this wonderful adventure from a man who literally saves hundreds or even thousands of people every day. He’s on his job site not just for himself or for others, but for everyone in his community and all of those who walk on it.
I showed this movie to my group at the library. I loved this; it means a lot because I will surely watch it again. It’s definitely worth seeing several times! That makes me feel good watching that rather sad part with Clarke protecting us from the burning building as he saves thousands by directing everyone’s attention away from where a fire was running rampant.

Many Americans who watched it last year know exactly what they mean when they talk about Clarke’s character. It makes you think about the power of small actions.
Critic’s verdict the critics’ verdict is that Safety Last! has fast-paced action scenes, three heroes (as mentioned before), and a great message to spur people into being more aware in everyday life? So far, the consensus from critics is that Safety Last! is a fun film with fast-paced action scenes and characters that you can get behind to watch. This movie has been out for about 5 years now, so I think plenty of people understand it pretty well. However, even if this movie was made today, it wouldn’t be as popular, but still, its reputation would possibly last longer than other movies on this list too.
