A lot of people think Safety Last! is a classic American automobile safety film, but it’s actually a silent film with an allegorical message. When Andrew Keir was 56, he had the idea to create a new version of “Safety Last” for modern cinema. However, his finished product did not really closely follow that original plot or Harold Lloyd’s character (having grown up in different economic times as ML did.
Though it is still an enjoyable film, its main message has now been almost forgotten by today’s crowd, which made me think maybe they won’t be able to accept this movie for what it is.

This is my first attempt at an analysis of this film, so if I get something wrong please let me know and correct me. Some symbolism is hard to pick apart from the literal in Safety Last! But some things in it work well with just a little bit of note. And Ben’s friend was most likely inspired by Harold Lloyd (also not shown on screen). He went on one certain type of journey (not as far, or fast as his friend, but I assume it was equally important).
The hero overcomes the villain and saves everyone (except maybe those who refuse to listen) from his demon elders’ evil. Also note that he does this at the very end in a scene where no one knows how he did what before him – so were not sure if everything is ok until we see an episode of I Love Lucy next year or just commercials– “Two wrongs don’t make a right” which sometimes can be said in many circumstances and probably has more than two meanings.
Could someone overhear the conversation between Lucy, Rialto (the Sheriff) and Pa? They were thinking of doing something that was sure to get them into big trouble with those they had just captured, but nothing really happened yet however this is like their communication with their fellow townspeople. Context: – In the beginning of their conversation, they are talking and laughing like a normal band of mischievous young people would do.
