Main Plot of the Movie

A terrible Northern stalemate stopped the Romans from capturing Britain. Highland guerrilla warfare pits the Picts against the Romans around Glenblocker and Gask Ridge. Vortex and Aeron’s Pict warriors slaughter the Roman garrison at Pinnata Castra, capturing only Centurion Quintus Dias, who speaks Pictish. Dias is grilled by Pict ruler Gorlacon, but he flees on foot.

To acquire favor with the Roman Senate and return to Rome, the fort’s ambassador meets with Gnaeus Julius Agricola. He sends the Ninth Legion, under by General Titus Flavius Virilus, to deal with the Pict threat. This is the Legion’s mission.

In the ensuing melee, Etain arrests the wounded Virilus. Dias led a group of survivors to Virilus’ village. Unable to free him, he orders them to return to Roman territory. To be fair, the king’s infant is not suffocated.

The next day, Gorlacon burns his son’s body and sends Virilus to fight Etain, whose parents were raped and killed by the Romans. To avenge his son’s death, he sends her after the legionaries on horseback with Vortix and Aeron.

For their part, the Romans wish to proceed north, then return south through the west. After a long pursuit, the fugitives jump into a river, killing Tarak and separating Macros and Thax.

Macros and Thax washed up. They run into a wolf pack and must escape. Macros’ Achilles tendon is sliced, and he is left to the wolves.

An edict from Emperor Hadrian states that the Roman soldiers retreated south. When they spotted Etain’s troops approaching, they defended the fort. Except for Etain, the Britons are murdered.

As they ride south, Dias and Bothos rejoin Thax. When Thax reaches Hadrian’s Wall, he threatens Dias, believing he will disclose his crimes. Dias strangles Thax. So an archer mistakenly shot Booths.

It was directed by Neil Marshall and starred Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, Olga Kurylenko, and Lizzy Caplan. The film was released in cinemas in South Africa on August 16, 2010.

The film is set in 1917 during the First World War. The German Afrika Korps under General Erich von Trotha is advancing along the railway line between Kimberley and Bloemfontein. The British are assigned to Lieutenant Colonel William Merrick Fraser (Michael Fassbender) to defend this town.

The movie depicts the life of a solid real-life incident that inspires the screenplay with his own demons in the form of alcohol addiction.

These two men are the real-life models of how a soldier should be. They live as brothers, and yet they do not fight with each other on-screen, which makes their presence in this movie even more memorable.

Production

Centurion was originally titled Ninth Legion by director Neil Marshall. According to legend, the Ninth Legion marched into Scotland with approximately 3,000 warriors and suddenly disappeared.

Historians have argued over the Legion’s fate in recent years; some believe it was disbanded, while others say it was slaughtered in Germania or fought against the Persians in the East during the early years of the second century.

The scholarly consensus seems to be returning to the view that the Legion was most certainly wiped out in the United Kingdom. In a recent book, Dr. Miles Russell of Bournemouth University claims that there is considerable evidence for a catastrophic British war early in Hadrian’s reign that resulted in the demise of the Legion.

Filming occurred at Badenoch, Strathspey, and Glenfeshie Estate in the Cairngorms, Scotland. Filming took place at Ealing Studios in London, as well as locations in Surrey such as Alice Holt Forest and Hurtwood Forest in the Surrey Hills.

Historical re-enactment groups were engaged in depicting British and Roman forces during the practical filming in Badenoch and Strathspey. The project was completed in March after seven weeks of shooting.

On March 18, 2010, the film was shown as the “Super Secret TBD” film at the South by Southwest Film Festival.

It was also the opening night premiere of the first-ever ActionFest film festival. On July 30, 2010, the film was released as a video on demand on the Xbox Live Marketplace and Amazon.com.

Romans killed her family, they cut off her tongue, she’s had a hell of a time, and she’s out for revenge on the Romans. She’s enraged because one sense is missing — she cannot communicate – while all of the others are more fully developed. She has excellent vision and hearing: she is a creature of the wild!”

Dominic West Portrays Titus Flavius Virilus.

In this historical play, the protagonist is the commander (legate) of the Ninth Legion. In contrast to his fellow patricians, with whom he has little in common, Virilus is a harsh veteran who feels far more at ease with ordinary soldiers, who would follow him anywhere, than he does with his fellow veterans.
