In 1933, American Dr. Robert Denham was in Singapore filming an expedition to climb the World’s Largest Fungus. He and his crew members Ann Darrow and her fiancé John King are kidnapped by the giant ape Kong, who takes them on a perilous journey back to New York City.
Upon their return, Kong becomes a Hollywood sensation (and some say insane) as people flee in terror from him wherever he goes.
In 1970, Kong was still living in cellars and gardens of the Empire State Building. Workers set out to capture Kong to be placed on PUBLIC display at the new World Trade Center (now known as 1 World Trade Center). Kong escapes and rampages through the city. Police officer Jack Driscoll is ultimately capturing them.
Denham arrives moments later (having flown back from Singapore) and saves Kong just before being executed. Currently, Kong is still living at the top of 1 World Trade Center.
