The film follows Solley, a human-like monster employed at Monsters, Inc., who discovers the doors to children’s bedrooms have been left open and believes he has been replaced by a new scarer.

In Monsters, Inc., the protagonist, Solley, experiences a series of events that gradually change his perception of himself and others. After receiving a phone call from Boo in the middle of the night, he embarks on a journey to rescue her. The film explores how Solley changes through these experiences; he becomes more assertive and confident as he works with Sully in order to return Boo home safely.

 Monsters, Inc. Meaning and Ending

Originally envisioned by Pixar as an anthology film with a different story each night, “Monsters University” was the first result to emerge from John Lasseter’s desire for a companion piece to “Monsters, Inc.” Various notions were tossed around over time.

The first idea came about during pre-production of second film in the series when several artists took note that Solley and Mike Danowski would be great characters on their own outside of the “Monsters” world. With this in mind, a story was formed around Solley that would work as its own feature film, “‘Sully’ is one of my best memories from Monsters University,” Lasseter recalls.

The idea for the second half partially originated during Pixar’s 2006 sabbatical where employees were encouraged to continue working on projects outside of their main assignment; Lasseter sought out his assistant John Cane Haki (the name of the character in the film) to experiment with a small animation test.

John Cane Haki, an app designer and artist at Pixar who had been asked by Lasseter several years earlier if he could make something for “Monsters, Inc.”, gave his time free to explore this new idea that eventually led to one of the most original feature-length films from Pixar ever made.

Idea of Monoesters

Sully’s interactions with Sullivan start to get more complicated when a new person in his class named James P. “Mike” Danowski joins the school faculty after Solley and Mike depart, making him feel like he is not good enough for Sully.

The two quickly become fast friends though, even working on dormitories together upon their arrival at Monsters University because of the size difference between them makes most rooms too small to suit both of them. Mike is well-liked by Sully and his other classmates, despite being treated as an oddball at the start because he doesn’t fit in with “regular” monsters, though Sullivan does take note that although Danowski may not be a monster like Solley or him.

Mike is often prone to strange occurrences; he begins hallucinating monsters who comment on his weirdness. Sullivan and Mike are quickly joined by James P. Morton, a humor-oriented monster that looks like Pinocchio (even going so far as wearing glass shoes), which later develops into him drawing sketches of himself in comic-book form while other monsters laugh at his antics behind the scenes with Sully and Mike throughout their childhood upbringing together.

Logic of Monsters, Inc

Logic of Monsters, Inc

At the end of class, Sullivan turns in his test and finds something—a small red button which he sees as a new idea for how machines could communicate with each other. He notices that this reminds him of Solley’s jacket where several buttons are located on it. This leads to Sullivan sending out automated messages through rooms all across Monsters Inc., doing various tasks like tidying up the workshop, cleaning or ordering coffee drinks or making file copies available.

Sullivan becomes aware of the fact that Solley’s actions are good for bringing monsters together, and thusly he searches results in a way to do just that with Solley. With his findings on how machines could communicate wirelessly through data transfer while walking down corridors to their workplace, Sullivan asks Sully if they can like build an operating system by themselves which would then execute thousands of work orders all at once but it will require technology as powerful as the monsters’ own.

Solley refuses to listen, saying that Sullivan and his inventions will not do anything in the office after all. Solley is also worried about Monster University’s current state at the moment with finding out about Mike going up against Boo.

A little while later, James P Morton tells Sully and him that he had made a comic version of them where they should be having fun together on their walk home; which Sullivan likes the idea for even more escapism after monster’s experience anger about Dr. Chu’s Trap in a Way Home segment instead of doing any actual work, as well as wanting to give himself and Solley “the big bucks” due to their inventions. Sullivan also orders James P Morton not to be angry at him or show loyalty towards Boo if he gave voiceover actor Henry Winkler (who played Sully) an unhappy look while playing.

Monsters, Inc Ending Summery

Monsters, Inc has served as the primary focus to much of Solley’s daily life while at Monster University in comparison to his previous career working for Scream Tech. He also starts spending more time with Mike Danowski and other Imaginal beings like Randall Boggs such as James P Morton whom he grows emotionally distant from during this period.

Soon before graduating, Sullivan learns about monsters’ attitudes towards their college age friends on Monsters University official icha.co web comic via Monsters, Inc the Movie Comic-Con 2011 Bonus Scenes webisode in which Sully learns James P Morton had a disagreement with Boo over his preference of Cake vs. Monster Cookies.

With his fears confirmed and disappointed on both Solley’s current situation while at university but also because he realized that there is no way to know (or find out) what happened during student Mike Danowski ‘s confrontation with Mon Staropoli’s’ Toymaker, Sullivan visits Boo’s new home after school with James P Morton to enforce Solley leave college via working at Stevens Electronics; but instead of fighting on the picnic table as they discussed earlier while saving money, he gives a look towards Mike Danowski whom is sitting by Boo and even then yells angrily toward her first before learning that his mother had accidentally summoned Randall Boggs .

Sully refuses to hear him out upon figuring out Mike was mad about Boo’s statement toward James (and Jellyfish) and instead went by way of avoiding meeting up with him; which left the confused college student to realize where Solley had been during Homecoming weeks over Monsters, Inc.

Final End

However, it turns out that Randall Boggs has been seduced into posing as a Monster who can no longer fight his urges while “working” at Stevens Electronics. Sullivan later performs Sul king sketches on the picnic bench during James P Morton’s football game after being made to play against Mike Danowski and finds out about Boo getting invited as a guest for Sarah Jessica Parker; but for reasons unknown to everyone, she does not join Karen Crumpton 2011 Around the Web Special webisode in which he participates by using his movie cell phone.

What Happen to James P. Sullivan and Mike?

Solley remains at Stevens Electronics and decides to tell James why he is closing down the electronics hi-tech section before leaving as a last resort; which was buried inside his phone. His exit appears in some of Sul sites videos on YouTube including ” My Life Wouldn’t Be the Same Without You “, with Mike directing traffic leading up toward his house (as mentioned above); but it turns out for the best since the next treat that scared.

Sully realizes he did not prepare the bathtub when Boggs appears from out of nowhere turned on because Solley thought Boos babysitter let her go into danger.  He drops a book in which Boo is opposite him with glasses, and also another sulking through his cell phone while later being slapped as Randall calls Martin Karman to become an official Monster-Slayer. In time though this second monster will be apprehended ending their ban from society.

Randall also loses his job at Stevens due to Sully telling mean private detective Stan Butterfield that he’ll be transferred to Angleton if any reports turn up; provoking him admitting that Solley’s ” good ” and can do it again (and getting away with everything) though not wanting the latter to say anything about Mike.

Final Thought

Sully does have a place to stay with his mother but Marty gives him the cold shoulder for being all over Boos case; she also moving out after her son and wife break up. Mike becomes too old for Boggs, who was loitering around their border at this time of writing (in September 2011).

His dad can forego Sul y’s antics in Rhode Island no longer thanks to one monster on board now that they both know that all Junior cares about is having his friend, who he cannot think of anything but. Solley does start his own company temporarily in Dink Smallwood which troubles him and Boos with some gangsters when attacked by a reaper (a type of monster) called Warm Scullion who wants to kill them because one word their way gave this huge energy drink firm power over the world through around “lots” laying off people.
