Among these attractions are the Australian War Memorial (pictured below), which covers all aspects of Australia’s military history, from World War I through to present day conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq; the National Art Gallery of New South Wales, which has a renowned collection of Australian art; and the Art Gallery of NSW at The Rocks.

Oxley Island is part of the St Clair National Park which is located in the Federal electorate of Hume. Oxley Island sits in the Liberal Party’s heartland area. There was a swing of 11.1% to the Liberal Party in 2010 and 17.6% in 2004, at federal elections however this is not reflected on Oxley Island as most people usually vote for their local Federal member (Federal Member: Michael Ronaldson – St Leonards).

Oxley Island is serviced by a small general store, post office and health clinic. There are also two schools on the island with one providing primary and secondary education to students from Year 7 to Year 12. The other school provides preschool for children aged 3-5 years old. In addition there are several churches on Oxley including Baptist, Anglican and Catholic services as well as a place of worship for the Jehovah’s Witnesses
The main transport links available to residents of Oxley Island include: The closest airport is Sydney Airport. There are also regular bus services from the Sydney central business district (CBD) and regional centres such as Taree and Newcastle that stop outside the post office on Oxley Island. Boats operate regularly between Oxley Island and snorkel/snorkel boat operators in Cabbage Tree Bay, close to Mossman Point where you can take a seat aboard one of their glass-bottomed boats for an exhilarating 30 minute trip across to the island with wonderful views of Port Jackson, Pittwater Peninsula and North Head lighthouse .
