Revillagigedo Island

History

Revillagigedo Island was first settled by the Austronesian people around 1000 BC. By the time the Spaniards arrived in 1521, they had already built a few settlements on the island. The Spanish eventually took control of Revillagigedo Island and used it as a base for their trade routes in the region.

Unfortunately, due to warfare and piracy, this connection was largely severed by 1735. However, with increasing tourism and more stable economic times, relations between Spain and Manila have since improved significantly!

Climate

Climate

Revillagigedo Island has a humid tropical climate with average annual temperatures of around 27 degrees Celsius. Winters are mild, and summers are hot and humid. Because of this weather, the island is considered to be one of the best places in the Philippines for year-round tourism.

Activities You Can Do In Revillagigedo Island Places To See :

Diving is a popular activity for novices who wish to give diving a try. The marine sanctuary at the island provides an abundance of shallow, very clear water that’s perfect for snorkeling and scuba-diving, so you can easily spend your vacation renting diving equipment from our partner – plus they will provide you with training, safety instruction and specific tour itinerary designed especially for ‘newbie’ divers.

Discover what lies in the unexplored depths below Revillaggaredo island! If watersliding sounds like fun but too extreme as you consider trying, there’s a river (or more), kamban and waterfall at the island that you can climb by foot, but our favourite activity is definitely snorkeling.

There are quite large coral shores in all parts of Revillagigedo island so most critters here tend to be pretty easy for beginners; plus since there aren’t any tourists around except us who’re enjoying vacationing on this beautiful island we won’t disturb them with our hands or up-close contact either!

Politics

Politics

Revillagigedo island is located in the Visayas region of the Philippines and elects a governor through an open, single-member district system. The incumbent Governor is Eddie Tagle who won his election in 2013 with 79% of the vote. The island’s representative in the House of Representatives is John Bertiz, a member of PDP-Laban (PH).

Until recently, Revillagigedo had no media. Lacking this critical facility practically drove away tourists already weak on their island ruggedness and picturesque scenes! However, it has received radio but maintains poor reception due to mountainous areas where electricity is usually erratic (and again due to the lack of aerial transmission towers).

Government services

Government services

There is a hospital on Revillagigedo island which can provide basic medical services such as surgery and obstetrics. However, it is not equipped to handle serious emergencies or long-term illnesses.

For these cases, travelers are advised to head directly to the larger islands of Leyte or Samar for better healthcare availability. The primary water source on Revillagigedo Island is the Cagsawa River; however, there are only two small and intermittent sources of freshwater accessible by foot (and one unreliable).

Tourism

Tourism

Due to the lack of reliable and consistent access to mainland tourism, Revillagigedo Island is mostly known for its natural wonders. The island has a diverse range of habitat including mountains, rain forests, freshwater lakes and streams as well as beaches.

There are also several caves located on the island that are popular tourist destinations such as Legaspi Cave and Cagsawa Cave. Visitors can also explore limestone formations called “pestanas” or “petroglyphs.”

Transport

Transport

There is no reliable public transportation on Revillagigedo Island. However, visitors can hire a driver or tour guide to take them around the island. The only exception is the airport located in Soloron town which offers limited flights to nearby islands such as Leyte and Samar.
