Stag Island

History of Stag Island

Stag Island may not be the most well-known island in the world, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth visiting. The island has a long and fascinating history, one that is full of mystery and adventure.

Originally known as Hog Island, Stag Island was first colonized by English settlers in the early 17th century. At this time, it served as a small agricultural plantation owned by John Witherspoon, who later became Governor of New Jersey. However, due to its remote location and difficult terrain (the island is made up of rocky cliffs and dense under brush), the plantation never flourished. Further, Witherspoon would lose his entire crop due to an outbreak of fever amongst the island’s workers.

Today, Stag Island is home to nothing more than a few abandoned cottages and private homes (most are rented out by their owners). But that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on hosting guests in your very own vacation suite! In order for everyone at Stag Island Cove Beach Resort™ LLC® quality lodging experiences this summer, you’ll need special permission from local authorities and illegal activity be taken care of before moving in as well . All that’s left to do is find the perfect spot on Stag Island and build your own dream cottage!

The island has a humid subtropical climate, meaning that summers are hot and humid, while winters are mild and mostly cloudy. As you can see from the graph above, Stag Island averages about an inch of rain every month. Going on vacation at this time of year means water floods each footpath in minutes; by November people walk around and even drive through standing deep puddles! If that’s not enough to wet your whistle (sorry) then consider what it would be like if it rained all day long: mucky billiard runs with mud everywhere! Other natural hazards include winter storms which may dump as much as 100 inches of snow twice a decade. And there is also strong winds throughout the entire year, which can cause extensive damage to trees and buildings.

The island is home to a small community of about 50 people who maintain their own customs and traditions. The islanders are fiercely independent, which makes them an interesting mix of old-world charm and spirited frontier spirit. They like to stay true to themselves and resist outside influences, even if that means maintaining some traditions that may be odd or impractical. In addition, many islanders have deep roots in the land – they grew up here, went to school on Stag Island or work on the property year-round (rather than relying on seasonal jobs). Consequently they know the landscape intimately and can give you advice on what to do and where not to go. With this kind of historical context, visitors can learn a lot about living “off-grid” and enjoying the simple pleasures in life associated with island life: hiking along back dirt roads, hunting wild rabbits for dinner or catching crabs right off your front door! Since Stag Island is relatively pristine it offers lots of opportunities for nature lovers while also providing infrastructure like electricity, running water (limited but available) charcoal grills/furnaces showers etc that help complete the picture.

The island is currently uninhabited and off-limits to visitors. There have been several attempts by outside groups to purchase Stag Island, most notably a California venture that hoped to build a country club. There has also been considerable interest in the area from sophisticated tourist development schemes, including golf courses and eco-resorts with guest cottages on side of the island; however there are no plans as of 2018 for water skiing or other commercial developments.

Government services

There is no government on the island, which is administered by a group of trustees appointed by the British Crown. These trustees manage all revenue from leases and rentals from island properties and also administer some funds raised through lottery grants. The island has its own justice system comprising two magistrates who handle civil cases on-island as well as issuing warrants for arrests off-island. There are occasional official visitors to Stag Island including MPs, government officials or members of royal families but they have no authority over the trustee board or managing personnel at any of the island businesses.

Stag island Tourism

The island is currently closed to visitors. The only way to gain access is through an invitation from the trustees or as a guest of one of the businesses on the island which all charge fees for their services. There are no basic tourist facilities available on-island including restaurants, cafes or accommodation so visitors must either bring their own food and supplies or hire them from off-island. Visitors also have to arrange transport into Stag Island which can be expensive, time consuming and often difficult due to weather conditions.

Why is stag island such a big hit with couples? After all, why would you want to go to an island filled with other people when you can go to an island filled with your loved ones? The answer lies in the fact that stag island provides couples with an opportunity to get away from the stresses of everyday life. There’s a relaxed atmosphere that’s conducive for conversations, and the isolated setting leaves room for couples to explore and flirt without being judged. If you’re looking for an intimate and romantic getaway, consider booking a trip to a stag island!
