Based on the Greek myth of the same name, Iphigenia captures the unspoken thoughts of the relation between man and woman, father and mother. It is a celebration of the unconditional love between all the characters and a criticism of the consequence of war on human relations, especially those between father and sons. Iphigenia is a beautiful love story that takes us through many layers on the spectrum of human emotions, archetypes, interpretations and feelings.

The Meaning of Movie

The movie Iphigenia is an exploration of the psychological effects of war on relationships. In particular, it looks at how fathers and sons are affected by combat. The story is a celebration of the unspoken love between father and son, as well as a criticism of the consequences of warfare on human relations.

The Story Behind the Movie

Iphigenia is based on a Greek myth, which tells the story of a young woman who is sacrificed to Greece’s god Apollo in order to prevent their warring armies from fighting. It is a beautiful love story that explores many layers on the spectrum of human emotions, archetypes, interpretations and feelings. My take on this movie is that its main purpose was to show a beautiful and intense love story.

Although, by no means did the characters being in civil war make it any less real. Also I think that there could be two ways of interpreting “war” in this film: The first one would be how A group of men are willing to risk death or harm through battle for their country’s freedom (which everyone can agree is not definitely a good thing). The second interpretation would be what the entire film is about, which is how humans can destroy each other even when living in close proximity to one another.

Hidden Meaning

The hidden meaning of the movie could be something like “sometimes war is necessary, but it always has consequences.” For example, in the end Agamemnon is killed by Achilles and Orestes commits suicide. However, even after all this destruction Achaemenes still loves his son deeply. This just goes to show how powerful love can be even in a time of war. The key characters in this movie are Iphigenia, Atalanta, King Oinomaus and Agamemnon.

All four have different motivations for going to war; whether it be greed (Orestes), lust for power (Achaemenes), pride (King Oinomaus) or vengeance (Agamemnon). However, by the end of the film all four men have been changed in some way. Orestes has killed Clytemnestra and Aegisthus, Atalanta has won the Trojan race, King Oinomaus has been cured of Madness by Athena and Agamemnon has been humbled by Achilles. In the end, war does not just destroy people physically but it can also destroy their emotions and relationships as well.

Ending of the Movie

The movie Iphigenia has a few different endings. The first ending is where the army led by Agamemnon sacrifices Iphigenia in order to prevent their warring armies from fighting. In the second ending, A group of men find and bring back Iphigenia after she had fled from her father’s temple. Finally, in the third and final ending, which is more likely to happen since it is more in line with the plot, Iphigenia marries Orestes and they have a child.

All three of these endings are symbolic in different ways. The first ending is about the cycle of war and how it can never be stopped. The second ending is about finding peace after fleeing from one’s dream home or place of safety. And finally, the third ending shows that even though everything may seem lost at times, love can bring people together in the end.

What Is the Message of the Movie?

The overarching message of the movie is that war can never be stopped. While the first two endings may show that finding a way to end the war may be possible, it is ultimately futile in the end since another conflict will inevitably arise. In contrast, the third ending shows that even though things may seem bleak at times, love can bring people together and help them survive.

FAQs

1.Why is the ending of the movie so confusing?

Ans: The ending of the Iphigenia movie is so confusing because in Greek mythology, the story of Iphigenia was told by Homer. The last lines of this story do not match with what has been described in the previous parts of the myth.

First, it does not explain why Agamemnon chose to sacrifice his daughter to save Greece from a plague. It also does not explain how Iphigenia’s death saved her father from being killed. Finally, it does not explain how Clytemnestra came to know about her husband’s plan and sacrificed their daughter as well.

I hope this answer helps!

2.What was really going on in the last scene of Iphigenia?

Ans: After the death of Agamemnon, Iphigenia is crowned queen of Thessaly. It was her destiny to marry Achilles.

The reason why the Chorus calls her a “slave” is because she has been possessed by a goddess called Artemis and therefore she could not be ransomed back to her father, Menelaus.

3.What is the tragedy of Iphigenia?

Ans: Iphigenia is a tragedy by Euripides. It was written in Greek, and it has been adapted into many languages over the centuries.

The story of Iphigenia’s sacrifice to ensure her father’s safety from the wrath of the goddess Artemis has been retold for millennia as an example of self-sacrifice for the good of others. In this way, “Iphigenia” is one of the oldest known works in Western literature.

In his introduction to “The Complete Greek Tragedies”, William Arrowsmith writes that Iphigenia’s role in Greek culture was more important than she actually played on stage:
