The is analogous to that of the island, but with a slightly warmer and drier climate. It lies roughly 3 miles (5 km) south-east of Gibraltar, between Cerro de la Cruz and Calpe Point Lighthouse.

There are two harbours on the island: Porta del Sol in Isla Fortuna (“Island Happiness”) and La Villa Harbour in El Corte Industrial Blancos (“White industrial town”).

Presently Cerro del Trueque has a resident population of 50,000 people comprising a number of nationalities including Spaniards (29%), British citizens & residents, Irish holders / residents and Moroccan Arab nationals (“cercanias” approximately).
