Most of the activities, including hiking and biking, are carried out on Thistle Island unless otherwise indicated.

The ride lasts about 1½ hours and is suitable for experienced travelers who want to cycle over moderate to difficult terrain. Participants should be in good physical condition, have complete bicycle knowledge and possess a separate bike light (front only).



The culture of the island is a mixture of French, English and Mohawk. There are many restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy local delicacies.

The gift shop offers items such as T-shirts, hats and keychains made from local artisans. There is no car parking on the island but bikes and electric cars can be powered along a mobile charging path.

The township of Thistle also offers public transportation to travellers coming from Monterrey via Canada Post Service MWU-10M0027 Scooter.



The Thistle Island Township is politically diverse with residents from many different countries, cultures and religions. The township has a population of about 1,000 people. The people who live in the Thistle Township are from 45 different countries and speak 20 distinct languages.

People can visit this small community to shop, eat, play or relax as it has its own library with books for sale. The township is also surrounded by a variety of beautiful scenery like lovely forested areas that have been preserved by zoning restrictions within the town’s limits.

Residents also have access to parks, beaches and casinos that are located in neighbouring municipalities such as Monterrey and Lindsay. The township operates under the governance of a mayor and five councillors who are elected by municipal election in October every four years.



The Township of Thistle is well known for its relaxing landscape, beautiful forests and world-renowned casinos. The township offers visitors a wide range of activities such as cycling, playing golf and swimming in the local lakes.

There are also various restaurants and cafes that serve traditional delicacies from around the world. The most popular destination for tourists is Monterrey that has beautiful sights and numerous recreational facilities for visitors to enjoy.

The township acts as a gateway between Lindsay, which lies on the north side of Highway 40, and other nearby municipalities such as Uxbridge.

Much of land in the area was never inhabited before it came into being in 2005 with construction work during this time ensuring there will be no further development until at least 2017 so that early settlers can settle used to living in the new township.

The Township has a population of approximately 2000 and is also home to Saginaw Iron furnaces, which was closed down in September 2006 but still prevails as a major landmark because it adds its own vital history into Thistle Island’s already long existing heritage.



The Township of Thistle is served by the Lindsay bus terminal which is located on the corner of Main Street and Woodbine Avenue. There are also various taxi services available to get around town. Greyhound Canada, Bay Connection and Coach Canada are the main companies that operates services in this area.

There is no public roadway access available to residents except for Main Street which connects Lindsay with Golf Town Centre of Thistle.

Ownership of general property was transferred over on January 1st 2012 however all commercial assets such as gas stations and stores must be bought by an interested party before June 30th 2020 unless only one owner remains or given corporate status by another company.



Thistle Island is known for its various types of seafood available at local restaurants and bakeries such as Fisherman’s Cottage, which opened in the early 2000s.

There are also many international restaurants that set up shop here to cater to tourists. Over half the population of Lindsay are residents who work in a city that is over 200 km away from their hometown making them commuters for most people.



Lindsay is known for its different types of wildlife that can be found roaming around town such as the black bear, which has been seen in the past on Main Street and Bradley Avenue. Ducks, geese, squirrels and even foxes are also some of the creatures that call Lindsay home.

A lot of the local wildlife can be found in a area near St. Michael’s Point which is an unofficial nature preserve located on Derwent Island and only accessible by ferry or air to residents who live outside this designated location.
